Down to the lake again.
I’ve been thinking about today’s Forest Park photos all day long. Taking Melvina to school, I was thinking about what to look for. Walking to get my hair cut I was kicking myself for not wearing more clothes and making a mental note to wear my electric gloves. Walking back to my house with my new ‘doo I thought about all the things that winter reveals (bird’s nests, for instance). All afternoon as I printed posters, I wondered whether the repairman from AT&T would come in time for me to still catch some light in the park.
Finally, I was free to get out and wander America’s No. 1 urban park. I listened to the geese honk as they flew across the sunset (note, that’s what I like best about geese; their grace in motion, and the friendly camaraderie of their flight. “Honk-honk” says one of them and immediately the others respond enthusiastically).
I watched the ducks dabbling in Post-Dispatch lake, a mounted policeman all bundled up slowly guiding his steed past the foot of Art Hill. I spied a kingfisher (but he also spied me), the moon was almost full, the western sky was streaked with gold and pink and I didn’t want to leave.
It was all quite glorious!
