Eye in the sky!
Check this out (be sure to zoom in and scroll across). I took it from the 21st floor of the Dorchester, an apartment building at 665 South Skinker Avenue, right across the street from... (starts with “F”, is America’s premier urban park, has lots of trees... ) Yes! You guessed! The Dorchester’s upper reaches have an unparalleled view of the place I’ve been spending much time this year (and the apartment I was shooting from is pretty nice - 3 BR, 2 bath, and available for immediate occupancy). The kind folks in the property office there gave me permission to take photos (it may have helped that Lewis Whetzel was my 1st cousin, 6 times removed), so I took advantage of that offer.
I saw a lot of my favorite species in the park today; there were Phil and Carol taking a series of self-portraits with fall foliage to celebrate their upcoming 40th wedding anniversary. There were the resting cyclists by the Grand Basin. There was some old guy in a gray sweater, and a quartet of cute schoolgirls looking as if they thought the weather a bit on the chilly side. There was also a lot of great color (though a bit muted due to the overcast skies). I don’t think we’re quite to peak color, but if you want to see Forest Park in all its autumn splendor, you will not want to miss this weekend. See it all right here.
