Creative strain
Sweating the details is the core of the creative life. Sometimes inspiration comes, sometimes it seems not to. Sometimes the results do not please their creator immediately. I have certainly had cases where I’ve had to try another approach for a while (then I go back to what I first did and frequently find I like it better than before).
“Thinking differently inside the box” is the project I’ve taken on and there are two different boxes within which I must think differently.
The first is my usual box - the viewfinder of my camera. All photographs are slices of life - in a frame. They tell a story (though often not the complete story), but it may not be the story you think.
The second is the box that is the park itself. It’s roughly the same shape as the viewfinder of my camera, but makes a lot more demands on me than my cameras do. The park requires that I get out and sample it. The park requires that I keep looking, visit the forgotten corners, and be persistent. Even when it is raining. Even when things seem the same as yesterday (there were plenty of things I missed yesterday!), and the weather seems uninviting. There are always things to appreciate in Forest Park.
