A Rain on the park
A steady rain, soaking the ground. The ground was already soaked. That’s why there are puddles everywhere and the water is high in the streams and ponds throughout the park. The ducks seem to love it, though.
My son Austen accompanied me on today’s exploration, adding a pair of sharp eyes to the expeditionary force. It was he who spotted the three baby birds lying naked and still on the cold, wet, ground. It was he who found the broken Robin’s egg. It was also he who uncomplainingly got rather wet, as I had the umbrella. Which reminds me of a poem my mother once quoted to me:
“It rains more on the just than on the unjust fella,
‘cause the unjust stole the just’s umbrella!”
Spring is in full swing, though, with green everywhere. The tall trees are filling out their leaves and there are still many flowering trees in blossom. In spite of all this Spring glory, the rain seemed to keep most park goers away; we didn’t see more than a dozen other people out and about.
But it was beautiful and refreshing (as always). And since you might have missed some of the solace Forest Park has to offer, I brought some back for you. Enjoy!
