Day 164 - a year in Forest Park

- photography & writing by Edward Crim, St. Louis

New Friends

Today (which ought to be proclaimed Meet Your Friendly Neighborhood Photographer Day) I made some new friends. There was Anna, out on Art Hill throwing a frisbee for  her dog to catch (he seemed to be enjoying it a great deal). Sophie and Sidney are the German Shorthaired Pointers out for a walk with their mistress (whose name I forgot - write it down, Crim!). I met Will and Steve on Picnic Island, as they were taking a well deserved break from their job of cutting the grass. A different Will was on the gravel beach, spraying herbicide to hold the forces of nature at bay. Martha paused to talk about the Snowy Egret I was photographing by the suspension bridge. Herb and Dianne posed for me with their matching bicycles (very pretty bikes - much better looking than mine). I saw city workers cleaning up storm debris and picking up trash,  Forest Park Forever staff and interns tidying up plantings and cleaning finger paint off stone work (how did it get there?). It takes quite an army of people to maintain America’s premier urban park!

Oh, I forgot to tell you about Heidi and Randy (pictured above). Randy got video footage of your favorite photographer as he wandered around looking for things to photograph, and Heidi asked him all sorts of questions (but not “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck”, since I haven’t found any woodchucks in Forest Park). Heidi said “Make sure you watch Today in St. Louis on KSDK, Channel 5, next Thursday Morning (the 18th) from 5 to 7”.  Here are today’s photos.
