Day 176 - a year in Forest Park

Turtle park

Turtle Playground (with turtles sculpted by Bob Cassilly, the eccentric artist and local genius behind the City Museum) is situated in the narrow sliver of Forest Park that lies south of US Route 40. Cut off from the rest of the park by the busiest road in the area, it’s a popular spot for moms with kids and photographers who enter the park via the Tamm Avenue bridge. It’s never very quiet there, since it is right next to the highway, but it is fun for kids of all ages to climb on the statues and run along the paths. Adults can sit on one of the concrete snakes and talk while the young ones are shrieking with delight over the monster turtles there. Today it caught my fancy and I loitered there until the trucks on US 40 caught my attention. I did a complete circuit of the park today, plus a bit extra, and found some interesting things. The most interesting thing about today was what I didn’t find (take a look at the last two photos and see if you can tell what’s missing). I’m a bit embarrassed about it, since I didn’t immediately realize what had changed. I was there for at least 2 minutes before it occurred to me. Here are the photos.
