Day 158 - a year in Forest Park

- photography & writing by Edward Crim, St. Louis

Quiet end to another busy day!

I meant to get up early this morning and go on one of the nature walks offered at Forest Park. But I was out past midnight last night photographing a dance recital dress rehearsal (This is the 5th year I’ve done the photography for the My King Studio of Dance in O’Fallon, MO and I was really impressed by how good the dancers have become. Most of them were there when I started, so it has been fun to watch them grow up and become really good dancers).

But back to this morning. I somehow was unable to arise from my slumbers until 8, and then it was time to quickly straighten out some issues with my Forest Park 365 site and take off for music practice (I play saxophone and electric bass). When I got back, there were all those dance photos waiting for me (almost 1200 of them), and then I had a potential client come by (whom I met at a wedding last year). It was almost 7 pm before I got out the door for America’s greatest urban park.

It was refreshing to stroll across the Kennedy Savannah taking photos of the flora there and loiter on Art Hill (where the homo sapiens hang out). It was easy to hear the goings on at the Shakespeare Festival (don’t miss it!) from down by the water. I dangled my legs over the edge of the Grand Basin and lay on the grass looking up at the sky. The clouds and contrails (we counted 4) turned golden and then rust as the sun dutifully went west to compensate those not fortunate enough to live near America’s Premier Urban Park.

Be sure to check out the moonrise in the photo section.
