Sunset in the park
I do appreciate the light of late afternoon, as the sun gets low in the sky and the world turns golden. It has been called the “magic hour” and it isn’t hard to see why. It’s my favorite time for being in Forest Park and my favorite time for portraits as well (many of which are made in Forest Park).
Not only does the color of the light change, but its direction and intensity. Evening light is a kinder, gentler light, and a change from what we normally see.
The only drawback to this time of day for photos is that it doesn’t last long. Always at my back I hear, time’s winged chariot drawing near. One must work quickly at this time of day, when night is coming on and the stark contrasts of the city nightscape assert themselves. See what I mean.
