Die Fledermaus
I see them a lot at night, so I know they’re here in the vicinity, but this is the first time I’ve encountered one up close and personal (it’s rather difficult to catch them in flight, particularly when it’s dark out)! He was hanging out (upside down, of course) on a sycamore tree in the middle of the golf course when I spied him.
“This is a job for Macro Lens!” I told myself. So, ML it was, set to 3 inches distance for a tete-a-tete with a fellow mammal. It seemed to me everything was hunky-dory until he showed me his teeth. I didn’t major in language for nothin’, ‘cause I got the message pronto and gave the little guy some breathing room.
There were also a few tree rats about, looking cute for the tourists (they don’t fool me), but other than them and my fellow homo sapiens, this fella was the only member of our class who showed up for photos. Oh, and check out the fighting moths. Tough dudes!
