Day 241 - a year in Forest Park

A lowering sky

Rainy and cool is not in our August vocabulary, yet here it is, and at a time when a sweaty misery usually reigns, we have weather befitting the US Northwest. All around me there are signs that summer will not last much longer, and I can’t help but wonder, after such a mild summer, what this coming winter holds. My first full year in St. Louis made me expect the worst of the weather here as the temperature hit 100 or above for  5 consecutive days in July, and that Christmas (1983) plunged to -13 F overnight. It made the weather in Richmond, Virginia (where I lived previously) seem mild (the record recorded temperatures for St. Louis are -23F in 1873 and +115F in 1954).

The problem; with the weather so mild recently, and St. Louis being such a great place to live and (here’s the clincher) with word getting out that the premier urban park in the USA is second to none in the world, we can expect a population explosion here as people from all corners of the country and the globe rush to St. Louis to live the Good Life.

Sigh. Well, after all, it is nice to share. And speaking of sharing, if you found the right set of keys hanging around, there is a reward being offered. Check the details here.
