Day 244 - a year in Forest Park

- photography & writing by Edward Crim

Lazy afternoon

It was cool today, feeling much more like October than August, and my car was in the shop, so I rode my bike (the one I took to Britain in 1976) over to Forest Park. I raced along the bike path to the east side near Round Lake (guess what shape it is) where I dismounted and ambled along the path for a while. I managed to scare off a few herons while I was there, and catch images of some of the flowers along the waterways. I wasn’t in a social mood until I chanced upon these charming ladies relaxing by the Grand Basin after having had lunch at the Boat House (which, as they rightly noted, has the best outdoor view of any restaurant in St. Louis). They met each other years ago when they were all caregivers to the same elderly woman, and have been friends ever since. I remembered Ann Shirley’s thoughts about “kindred spirits”; after all, you never knows where you will come across them! You can check here to see if I managed to exceed the quotidian.
