Day 216 - a year in Forest Park

Ped power

I am determined not to let this project defeat me (or defeet me either - they’re very sore), so every day I diligently scour the park for its secrets, which I then, as you may have noticed, proclaim to the world.  This has required a lot of walking on my part, but I have noticed that I am not alone in this. There are many walkers, joggers and cyclists (they use their feet also) who pass me in the park as I do my wandering. They may well be wondering about my wandering, but they are usually too reserved to ask.

There were a few firsts today - I saw pigeons in the park for the first time. They were flying out of Aviation Field over US40 and out of the park as fast as they could go. I really have no idea why; perhaps they heard about the hawks and owls who live in the park ! I also saw all four members of the Great Horned Owl family who inhabit our park. Art and Moe, the young owls (who could well be Artina and Moenetta) were perched in a tree on wildlife island and Charles and Sarah in a tree on the hill across Post Dispatch lake.

Today was also the first time I walked across the archery range (and lived to tell the tale), the first time I found a fungus larger than my head (!), and the first time I saw horses kicking up dust in America’s Greatest Urban Park!

Coming up soon : Megapixel panoramas, canoe trip on the FoPa waterway, forbidden hour loitering and maybe more camera on a stick! In the meantime, you can check out today’s photos here!
