Day 217 - a year in Forest Park

Which way?

I’ve gotten to the point in my project that each day’s decision about where in the park to go looking is a major issue. I usually base it either on where I’ve been (and not been) recently, or what events are going on in the park (there are some I really want to see, others I might wish to avoid). Then there’s the weather.

It looked like rain this morning; there was even a severe storm warning for the area. So, I toted my umbrella along and tripped over it the whole morning. It could have been worse, though. Those big striped cats that I like to admire from a distance could have been reciprocating at very close proximity. I don’t think I would like that.

As it was, however, my walk on the wild side was a very tame one (though I was mooned by a bear). I walked by the primate house (no monkeying around for me), through Red Rock country and over to the bear pits. There I was reminded of a particularly embarrassing development: I’ve been telling people that there are no pigeons to be found in Forest Park and suddenly there another one is (I saw half a dozen or so yesterday), strutting his stuff in front of the bears and everyone else! Cheeky devil. Allow me to say that there are not many pigeons in Forest Park (though there are a lot of mourning doves). There were a few of my favorite species, as well. Wanna see?
