Day 261 - a year in Forest Park

Just Crabbin’

There are not many fruit trees in Forest Park, so I was surprised to see hundreds of crabapples lying on the edge of the Zoo’s south parking  lot. There were enough there to make quite a lot of Crabapple Jelly (if the urge to return to my roots were to hit me). I was a bit too late to do any gathering, however, as most of the fruit was down from the trees and either smashed on the pavement or fermenting in the grass.

I had taken a detour on my bike through the lot to check on the progress of the new south entrance bridge, slated to be finished sometime in November. Right now it doesn’t look like much (we’re just a month into the project), but soon you won’t have to worry about getting hit when you cross the street there by the Zoo; a pedestrian bridge will carry you safely over the traffic directly from the parking lot.

The rest of my day was a leisurely bike ramble all the way around the park, encountering carp, various birds, men fishing, a family scrambling across the rocks at the Deer Lake rapids, lady golfers and a pack of runners. See for yourself.
