Day 266 - a year in Forest Park

- photography & writing by Edward Crim

99 and counting

Ninety-nine days that are left in the park,

Ninety-nine days that are left,

Take one down and pass it around,

Ninety-eight days will be left in the park!

Oh, the classics of American culture, the songs of our youth! These are the things that bring us together! Today, to celebrate the fact that it is Tuesday, I took a few steps back through time; all the way back to ancient Egypt, in fact, courtesy of our very own St. Louis Art Museum! I had a leisurely stroll through the building, stopping to talk to various guards asking them which were their favorite galleries and similar questions. It’s a good place to go to look for ideas, as well.

After a sandwich in the cafe there, I wandered across the park, along Lindell almost to Kingshighway, and then across the Metrolink tracks to the Victorian footbridge before turning towards Art Hill (where I left my car). Butterflies were out in force, kids were trying new ideas, tree rats scampered across the grass, cars zoomed through on the parkway (not even guessing what they were missing), there was art, bird watching and  quiet meditation happening all around me. Oh, and I got the best photo so far of a Night Hawk. And you can see them all by yourself!
