6 mile walk
I wanted a walk today. I started at Wells and Skinker, in sight of the giant Amoco sign, and headed east along the edge of US 40 all the way to the interchange at Kingshighway. I passed the Zoo, the city greenhouses and storage yard, aviation field and the Planetarium. On the NW corner of the interchange, right where the entrance onto westbound 40 used to be, a mound now rises into the sky. It gives you a good view of the surrounding area; the park, Medical Center and all the traffic. It was there I saw the falcon. Circling, soaring, swooping and seemingly enjoying the entire experience, he covered the area there near the science center before flying off to the west. I snapped a few shots as he briefly loitered overhead and then I walked on. On past the Steinberg rink I went, along the wild area boardwalk, around circle lake, with its fleur-de-lis fountain, through the fish hatchery ponds, and along Lindell toward home. The sun shone lovingly on the golf course, the clouds turned pink, and darkness hovered over the face of the earth, but I got some pretty good photos.
