Gadgets galore
“There is a lot of technology in this building.” my son Austen commented.
I looked around the atrium of the Spanish style Reptile House, noting nothing out of keeping with its early 20th century origin. “There is?” I countered.
“Yes,” Austen replied, “everyone is carrying a camera or a cell phone.”
Now that I understood what he meant, I took another look. That’s when I saw the future president of the Zoo Photographers of America, carefully studying his subject (he seemed to have a special affinity for turtles). All around us people were snapping photos; of each other, of the reptiles, of anything that struck their fancy (who knows, maybe even of me). The zoo was packed today, in spite of the rain, and everyone had a camera (can’t blame them). Kids ate ice cream, parents tried to keep track of everyone, the birds shrieked and photographers clicked. Here’s what I saw.
